New York City

We could see the Statue of Liberty from our RV park, Liberty Harbor, Jersey City, NJ. It is just a parking lot with electrical hook ups and no sewer connection, but it's the closest park to NYC. Walking distance to the subway.

How to get tickets to tour the inside: They aren't online, they aren't available by mail and not on the phone. So Judy asked the national park/homeland security guide, "Why can't we get passes to go into the Lady?"

He said, "Just a minute," and made a call. "You can pick up your tickets when you get on the island."

Thus, we got to walk up into the platform because Judy asked. That's my lady!

The ferry on the NJ side to the Statue had no wait, where as on the NYC side at Liberty Park, the wait was almost two hours and the boat is larger and packed with tourists.

We walked two blocks to catch the "Path" subway, which goes under the Hudson River. The first sign of light is the picture below. I really cannot express the feeling I had when I realized we were at the bottom of Ground Zero.

Only the two towers are left to be rebuilt. All the other building are done.

In the righthand side of the picture, can you see the green trees and church steeple just above the trees? Have you heard the story about this church? It's quite amazing. All the buildings adjacent to the towers were damaged to one degree or another, but not the church. Learn more.

Something I found very interesting - the only place you could see what happened following 9/11 was displayed at the church. When you go to the glassed observation deck, there was nothing about 9/11. You think it's just another construction site.

Bus Tour

We took the Grayland tour. It's a very nice way to see NYC. We found out if you meet the bus at the wharf or anywhere but Times Square or the Empire State Building, you do not have a wait to get on.

The famous bridge you see in the movies or on TV.

Top of the Rock
We had no wait and the cost was less than the Empire State Builting. You get a better view of Central Park. Notice the green patch and the white dots: those are people. Everywhere you go, people are running into people. I just could not live that way.



This was our first time to NYC. In three days we saw a lot, but like Washington, DC, we only scratched the surface.
