Mardi Gras in Mexico

Our friends' entry

February 2 was the date…but here it’s not the Mexican Mardi Gras. Let me explain…when you have fun-loving people with time on their hands, retired RVers both American and Canadian, this is what happens. We had a friend come and spend a couple of days with us, and when he heard we were going back, he said, "Why? What do you do there? Walk east down the beach one day and go the other way the next day?" Not a problem for us, the main problem we have is choosing what not to do; we never will get bored.

Like with the Independence Day parade I told you about last fall, this is about the kids; however, this time, the kids are on the side of the road and we are in the parade. Just like in New Orleans, people dress up, throw beads and candy to the crowds. The difference is the crowd here is the town kids, it's hard to believe any kids stayed home. RVers buy hundreds of pounds of candy in the states, stuffed animals for the babies, and beads to throw to the kids. They love it! This year they had 39 ATVs or vehicles in the parade.

Walkers – we have to have people walking alongside the vehicles with signs that say in Spanish, "Stay back." The kids get so excited they have run in front of vehicles to get the candy. Judy was a walker. Next year we’ll put the truck in.
